Living on Water

Since early times, we comforted ourselves on different lands all over this planet (earth), however, what if we had to comfort ourselves on mass body of water. No more camp fires on land, no more soccer games on land, and no more running on land. Sounds weird does it. Well, do not be impromptu when you see “floating homes” or “houseboats” out in the beaches somewhere.

An article titled “Floating Dreams,” written by Colleen Kane, illustrates the future possibilities of a new living. Imagine, living exactly the way you are now – doing your daily routine – but on water instead of land. The article also demonstrates the different types of floating homes / houseboats. My favorite is the Yacht Island, but for now, it is only a concept.

Now, I wonder what the realtors would do. Will they have to rebuild “their” home(s) to a houseboat or discard those homes and loose all their profits? On second thought, they will be doing just fine, meanwhile. Why, well because of the fact these houseboats are pricey. The prices for one of these floating homes or houseboats surpass the income of those “39.5 million individuals who are in poverty”, not mentioning the middle class. Therefore, there is still opportunity to make some income, only this time the competition will be tougher. Indeed, our lives would be very different-than it is now. Many may doubt this possibility, but it may be where our future is heading. In early Greek times, the societies did not have cars, trains, and airplanes to transport themselves. They either walked or rode on camels, horses, and chariots.

Now look! We have cars, trains, and airplanes. Even better, we have rockets to go outer space and submarines to explore the deepness of the oceans and seas. For those reasons, there is a high possibility of us living in a new environment (on water). At the same time, these houseboats are not bad ideas. Epa.gov states “sea level is rising along most of the U.S. coast, and around the world. In the last century, sea level rose 5 to 6 inches more than the global average along the Mid-Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, because coastal lands there are subsiding.”

There is no telling how or where our future will end up. For now, I would say we should come up with new approaches to survival especially on [water]. Nonetheless, this is a good topic to discuss and to meditate on. Our world is changing, so should we.
